Baby going in to surgery, asked for outcome

Posted 7:41 pm, 07/23/2017

It turns out that I was a little wrong. The baby was on life support from Thursday until today, when the family finally decided to stop the life support. So on top of everything else, they had to deal with several days of waiting and hoping

Oh wow, I'm so sorry! I can't imagine -- I don't think you could have read that in these cards... and, you might not have been meant to. :(

I feel really bad, because I feel like I gave the mom false hope In retrospect, I guess the better question would have been, what will be the baby's outcome from the surgery? So I wasn't specific enough, and I feel like my mistake just added to someone's pain this week.

Truth be told, the parents weren't exactly in a happy relationship, so I should have paid attention to the Quint and realized that this was about them, not the baby.

The Jumpers you had are more telling; I can see the World + Devil combination possibly suggesting that the parents are tied to nature/life/natural events. The 6 of Pentacles is called "success" in the Thoth deck, but that minor next to such large major cards just seems... minimal. (Your Quint of the jumpers is also the Lovers.)

Additionally, the cards you pulled seem more focused on the parents, especially with the Lovers Quint.

Well, guys, I have a terrible follow up to this one.

They began the surgery at 8am, but the baby started to bleed out and coded on the table, so they stopped the surgery. She has a fast growing malignant tumor called AT/RT, with no real chance of survival. As of around 3pm, my friend told me that they were in ICU with her, basically just keeping her comfortable until her heart stopped. I haven't heard from her since, for obvious reasons, but I can only imagine that it's over by now.

I couldn't be more sad today, this was just a complete horror. She was fine on Sunday, went for her 6-month shots on Monday, and she's passed by Thursday. I couldn't even begin to imagine.

I should also mention the Quint... am I correct that court cards have a value of 0, which makes the Quint value here a 6... the Lovers? I'm not sure how that would apply at all.

Sorry to be dominating the board so soon!! But this has been a dramatic few days.

I have another friend (not the one that's pregnant) who just found out on Tuesday that her 5 month old baby has a brain tumor. Scans show that it has grown in to her spine, and the tumor has a lot of blood vessels involved. She goes in to surgery tomorrow morning, and her chances don't seem great.

The mom asked me for a reading, and I came up with:

What will be the outcome for [her] surgery?

World (completion, achievement and fulfillment; you have reached the end of a journey or have completed a major life cycle)

Devil (deceit, treachery, desire for earthly things; worry about earthly problems)

6 of Pent (Generosity, charity, giving, prosperity, sharing wealth; fairness, great admiration)

Emperor (Authority, father-figure, structure, solid foundation; sitting alone at the top)

Queen of Wands (Exuberance, warmth, vibrancy, determination; deceptive, irritable, fiery temper)

2 of Wands (Future planning, progress, decisions, discovery; represents a decision between what you know and taking a risk)

9 of Swords (Depression, nightmares, intense anxiety, despair; worrying excessively, beating yourself up; more of a psychological negative than physical one, though)

This spread was a little confusing to me, because none of it seems to really answer the immediate outcome.

The World was an almost immediate jumper, and I took that to be positive, but it's really not that clear to me. I mean, "the end of a journey" or "completion of a major life cycle" might not be all that positive in the sense that her baby not surviving the surgery would definitely be the end of the journey and end of a major life cycle.

The Devil... I can't imagine that anyone is lying to her about the necessity of the surgery, so this with the 6 of Pent (and the spread) I thought might have more to do with upcoming financial problems; maybe insurance won't cover everything and they'll have some work to do to pay for things.

Same with the spread in general; if she's the Queen and her husband is the Emperor, then the 2 of Wands can refer to them having to make a decision together. And calling back to the World, maybe that decision will be about them possibly traveling to see a specialist? Which would imply that the surgery goes off OK, but isn't the end of the horror.

The only obviously negative card here, though, is the 9 of Swords, but considering that she's obviously very anxious and worried, that's not a big surprise.

I told her all of that EXCEPT for the possible negative meaning behind the World; I'm trying to make her feel positive and hopeful, and I'm not even touching on anything negative right now.
